MEET PADME!
Padme is an 8-week-old, blind, 4.5-pound, female, lab mix, who joined us after a rescue partner in GA asked us for help.
Padme saw the Eye Specialist on 4/28/25 and it was determined she has Glaucoma. Eye removal will need to be done, but the specialist would like her to be close to full-grown. Padme is non-visual now so removing the eyes will not be a big deal to her and honestly will be more of a relief because glaucoma can be painful and has no cure. Padme is currently receiving eye drops twice a day to keep her comfortable. This will need to continue until surgery.
Here is what her foster Mom has to say about her:
"The world is a big, strange place for a puppy, but being blind makes it all the more mysterious. It didn’t take long for this baby to find comfort and safety with us. She is facing a different set of challenges, but she does an amazing job utilizing her other senses to respond and stay near to her foster momma. With the use of verbal sounds, cues, textures, and smells, she has begun showing us how well our communication bond is thriving. Every day we are seeing her spunky puppy personality emerging and she is adapting well to her new environment. Padme enjoys being snuggled and rocked. She also enjoys being outside sunbathing with her canine friends. "
Padme is a lucky girl to be in a great foster home that is able to provide a safe, loving and stimulating environment. We are very thankful!
We are looking for a foster to adopt home that is local to the DMV, so when the time comes, Padme can go to our Veterinarian Eye Specialist for eye removal (PWD will cover the cost of eye removal).
